Celebrex is a widely prescribed medication used to treat pain and inflammation. It works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. Celebrex belongs to a class of drugs known as COX-2 inhibitors. It is prescribed to manage moderate to severe pain or inflammation associated with arthritis, menstrual cramps, and other types of injuries. While Celebrex is generally well-tolerated, some patients may experience adverse reactions such as stomach ulcers, bleeding, or allergic reactions. It is important to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new medication, especially if you have a history of cardiovascular issues, liver problems, or allergic reactions to other medications.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Pfizer Inc. has announced that it is offering free celecoxib capsules to patients who have received the drug for an injury to their kidneys, which was discovered by a study of people with kidney disease.
Pfizer will start selling the capsules in the New York City market at the end of the year, and the company will also begin selling the same product at a discount to patients who have had the kidney disease drug and its manufacturer, Pfizer.
The capsules are free of any health risks, including kidney damage, but they are still the cheapest medicine in the pharmacy category. They cost less than a dollar less than $3 at Wal-Mart, $2.10 a pop at a discount, and $1.40 at Costco.
The Celebrex-based capsules are the largest generic drugmakers to offer Celebrex to consumers and have been at the forefront of the anti-inflammatory drug, the company said in a statement. They include GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, which made Celebrex, and Bayer AG, the pharmaceutical giant that makes Celebrex.
In a statement, the company said, "Our customers continue to benefit from the high quality of our medicines, and we look forward to promoting our products and offering affordable prescription medications to those who need them."
Celebrex is the brand name for the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen, which is a pain reliever and fever reducer. The generic version is known as naproxen.
The Celebrex brand was launched in the United States in 2003 and it's still on the market. But some consumers are already considering the Celebrex brand.
The Celebrex price on the U. S. prescription drug benefit drug benefit insurance plan has decreased slightly since its introduction, according to the Consumer Healthcare Industry Association, while the cost of generic versions has gone up.
"The cost of the generic version has not been as great as the brand name version," said Dr. Rachidepress H. J. Hirsch, an endocrinologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, who also wrote for CNNMoney. "The brand name version has seen the most dramatic price increase since the introduction of the generic version."
Hirsch said that the price of a Celebrex capsule is expected to jump 10 percent to 15 percent annually over the next decade. However, he said, "If I were to go from the brand name version to the generic, I'd be buying the generic. And, again, I don't see how you're going to be able to get that."
There are, however, other advantages to the Celebrex capsule, he said. "It's a prescription-only medicine, so it's not like taking an asthma drug, which is quite common, and it's not like taking a prescription medication. You can take the capsule and it's a pretty safe drug, especially in the U. where the cost is very high."
A generic version of the drug is still in production, but Hirsch said it may also be a better option for people who have other health concerns.
"We do know that some of our patients are taking the brand-name version of the drug. They may have to take it for a longer period of time to have any benefit from the drug," he said.
The Celebrex capsule cost $7.41 at Costco and $2.80 at Wal-Mart, $2.20 per bottle, a $2 price increase, according to the Consumer Healthcare Industry Association. But Hirsch said, "It's not the same drug that causes people to take a generic or a brand-name drug, it's the generic that's the difference."
Celebrex is available by prescription only, and Hirsch said the Celebrex capsule is a better option for those who have a history of kidney problems. However, the generic version of the drug is also not covered by the Medicare drug benefit for kidney disease, the group said.
